EVANSTON, Il. - Mayfest announced in a press conference this morning that all students wishing to attend Dillo Day will need to write a 500-word personal statement in order to complete the registration process.

Dillo Day, an annual music festival held on Northwestern's campus, has been run by Mayfest since the event's inception in 1972. However, this is the first year for which a registration process has been required for Northwestern students.

"We feel this is the right move for both Mayfest and the university at large," said Mayfest President Holly Pope. "Dillo Day is -- and has always been -- entirely about the music, and we want to make sure it stays that way."

Pope said Mayfest also considered adding an interview component to the registration process, but ultimately decided against it because members felt "it would be inappropriate to vet applicants based on personal likability and social status."

Many Northwestern students expressed their disapproval of the change.

"This is ridiculous," said Jeffrey Wenzel (WCAS '15). "I mean, okay, I've never actually made it to the Lakefill on Dillo, but I always kind of liked having the option."

Added Wenzel, "I heard there's going to be a rapper this year."

At press time, Mayfest was busy responding to hundreds of furious Instant Messages from ETHS students.
