On Monday Mayfest officially announced a new guest policy for Dillo Day 2015, completely and irrevocably shattering everything enjoyable about the annual free concert held on the shores of Lake Michigan each May. Starting this year, Northwestern students will be allowed to bring only one non-student guest to the largest student-run musical celebration in the nation of its kind, and worse yet, this guest will have to pay a school-subsidized fee of ten American dollars.

In the weeks leading up to last year’s Dillo Day, (the last Dillo Day that anyone will ever enjoy), Mayfest experienced a high demand for wristbands that raised concerns over NUPD capacity restrictions. Now, viciously infringing on one of the oldest and most beloved Northwestern traditions, Mayfest is seeking ways to ensure there is enough physical room on the lakefront for every Northwestern student to have the opportunity to attend.

Worse than Mayfest’s transgressions against Northwestern students, Evanston residents will now also have to pay to witness the musical talents of various major artists live in concert.

“I’m going to have to pull my Escalade out of my three car garage and withdraw twenty five dollars from the bank so Johnny can go see some rapper on the lake with his friends,” said ETHS soccer mom Jillian Wetherbey. “I’m going to miss spinning class.”

Despite the negative feedback, Mayfest stands behind its changes, citing that the event is still free and accessible to all Northwestern students, the people the tradition was started years ago to serve in the first place.  These students disagree however, and do not plan on spending their last Saturday in may enjoying music on the lakefront for free.

“What am I doing May 30th now that Mayfest ruined Dillo?” asked Weinberg sophomore Alaina Brown. “I don’t know. I’ll just stay home and study or something.”
