EVANSTON, IL—Northwestern University today began construction on a state of the art, 300 million dollar sheet of glass, scheduled for completion in late 2019.

Part of a gift from Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan, the single pane of glass will boast a gorgeous lakefront view and is an important step toward Northwestern University’s goal to be entirely glass by 2040.

“We’re excited to be bringing Northwestern to the forefront with this massive, cutting edge rectangle of doubly reinforced glass,” said president Morton Shapiro at the groundbreaking ceremony. “We hope the construction of the pane of glass will help Northwestern University expand its mission to construct giant, expensive sheets of glass.”
