Northwestern Football Team Full of Totally Nice Guys
The Northwestern Wildcats topped the Wall Street Journal's "College Football Grid of Shame" as the "most admirable" team, leading fans, coaches and analysts to talk about just how nice those guys are. Coach Pat Fitzgerald marveled at his team’s manners and gratitude. “I’m just so proud of the young men they’re becoming,” he said. “They’re just some really nice guys.”
Fitzgerald said that this was something he has come to expect from his football team, and that it starts with the leaders on the team. “Kain [Colter] and Trevor [Siemian] did such a great job of sharing last year,” he said. “I was worried that they might build some sort of animosity or even competitiveness, but they were both just great friends, not only to each other, but to me,” he added. “I love them, like how you love a brother, nothing romantic.”
Weinberg junior Amy Dunn considers herself a fan of the team, but says their relationship is very platonic. “Don’t get me wrong, I’ll say Go ‘Cats every Saturday,” she said. “But I just wish, like, a REAL football team was this nice. I’m just sick of rooting for jerks.”
Ken Davis, a McCormick senior, has cherished the Northwestern football team. “I just really value the relationship that we have with our football team,” he said. “And I just don’t want to jeopardize that for anything. Especially a winning season.”
