OPINION: Trump’s Win Means It’s More Important Than Ever to Listen to Woke Whites on Social Media

Donald Trump’s election to the Presidency left many groups feeling voiceless. Since the news that Trump won the Electoral College, there has been myriad facebook post, tweets, and articles offering help and support toward marginalized communities.  Marginalized communities face being left voiceless during the Trump tenure. While it is unfortunate that so much of our population will be disenfranchised, we can take solace that white voices will largely be untouched. With so many voices being oppressed, it’s crucial that we listen to the wokest and whitest of us.

Trump’s win was largely carried by the votes of white men and women. They do not speak for all white people. Many white peole grew up in largely white, upper middle class communities with parents who graduated from elite schools. Despite being surrounded by homogeneity, they persevered to become politically active. Their love and appreciation for other cultures has kept it alive and with our help, these voices will be heard. Because of their unique place in the world, we know how to best reach the oppressive white leaders.

Woke white people want to support unheard voices in the one way they know best: saying it instead. Don’t worry minorities, they’ll retweet Chance the Rapper any chance we get, they’ll support the immigrant movement because our grandparents came here from Europe, and most importantly, they’ll take leadership roles during protest. Don’t worry, we’re all in this together.
